About St. Croix
The largest of the Virgin Islands, St. Croix is fiercely proud of its
heritage and history. Having flown 7 Flags over its lush valleys and
rolling hills, it boasts a harmonious blend of cultures throughout its
architecture, art work, food and traditions. From the time of Columbus’
arrival on St. Croix in 1493 and throughout the past 500 years, sugar
and rum have molded its history. To this day, St. Croix lays claim to the
world’s finest rum produced here at the
Cruzan ™ rum factory and the sugar mill has become a symbol of St.
Croix prevalent in much of the artwork and jewelry created by local
artisans.
Nick-named the “Twin Cities” for its sister cities of Christiansted and
Frederiksted, St. Croix is also known for its duty-free shopping.
Christiansted is the only historically preserved 18th-century Danish
town in the Caribbean and features a myriad of chic clothing
boutiques, fine handmade jewelry, tropical home goods, casual
beachwear and souvenir shops. Frederiksted, located on the west
end of the island, has been newly restored to is Victorian-Era splendor
with its renovated cruise ship dock, beautiful tree-lined waterfront,
restaurants and shopping.
St. Croix is also known for its amazing restaurants from casual, open-
air to fine-dining establishments. Cruzan rum can be found gracing
each bar and it’s always fun to ask the bartender what their signature
rum drink is! You can find something for everyone with chefs that
specialize in French Cuisine, Mediterranean, Italian, American-fare,
Asian-inspired, and local West Indian (all with a Caribbean twist).
A visit to St. Croix will make you fall in love with the emerald island, its
warm people and its relaxed atmosphere. Travelers often comment
that St. Croix is their favorite Caribbean island, a hidden jewel still
untainted by the overwhelming crowds and commercialism of other
tropical destinations.
We love it and know you will too!
